What Are Responsible Products?
We wish we could become 100% sustainable overnight, but everyone has to start somewhere. Thats why weve made it easier for you to find products that are responsibly manufactured or have a positive social impact. We work with our brand partners to display this information on product pages so you can find gear and brands that put people and our backcountry first.
For a product to be considered responsible on our site, it has to meet at least one of the following criteria: Certified B-Corp, bluesign® APPROVED, Organic Materials, Recycled/Repurposed Materials, Responsible Wool Standard, Responsible Down Standard, or Fair Trade Certified™.
Certified B-Corp: Brands that balance purpose and profit, meeting the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, transparency, and legal accountability. A B-Corps goal is to use business as a force for good, driving positive impact for employees, communities, and our planet.
Bluesign Approved: bluesign® is an independent authority that certifies each step of the textile production process as responsibly manufactured, with the lowest possible impact on people and planet. When a product is bluesign® APPROVED, it has been strictly tested to meet bluesigns sustainability standards.
Organic Materials: Products made with organic materials, such as organic cotton, fall into this category. To see what percentage of material is organic, check the tech specs toward the bottom of the product page.
Recycled/Repurposed: Products made from recycled materials (e.g., plastic water bottles or down insulation) or repurposed material (e.g., nylon). Check the tech specs toward the bottom of the product page to see what percentage of material is recycled or repurposed.
Responsible Wool Standard: Products that comply with an independent, voluntary benchmark that ensures sheep are treated ethically and that grazing lands are managed and protected using best practices.
Responsible Down Standard: Products that follow an independent, voluntary set of guidelines that ensures geese and ducks are not subjected to unnecessary harm, like live-plucking and force-feeding. RDS-certified products are made using 100% certified down.
Fair Trade Certified™: Products made according to a set of strict social, economic, and environmental guidelines. The nonprofit Fair Trade USA establishes safe conditions and sustainable compensation for workers, while also protecting the environment.
