Why We Like The Patagonia Down Sweater Hooded Jacket
We zip into Patagonia's Down Sweater Hooded Jacket to avoid the shivers on portaledges and in snow bivvies. Water-shedding fibers and heat-trapping down keep us cozy, while the elastic bound cuffs and cinchable hem seal out drafts. When on the move, we cinch the insulated hood over our head to shield our neck and ears from nipping winds.

I bought a Patagonia coat that was supposed to be black but Back Country sent a blue coat. Then sending it back and getting a refund was horrible and difficult. Took nearly a month to get my refund. I posted this story on social media

I bought the down jacket while Backcountry was running an amazing sale event. I have done extensive research of the down jacket and the deal was too great to pass away. Even though it's around April, I was able to use the down jacket during my teens outdoor soccer games (30's degree w/ strong wind). The jacket just kept me very warm and windproof (the hoodie is amazingly).

Very warm. I buy a size bigger to wear a hoodie under and I’m always comfortable during New England winters. My beef is like most gear I’ve owned back in my the day, the quality of the new stuff seems to have gone by the wayside. I own a few Patagonia jackets and my older ones are still looking good. New ones are 100$ more in just the last couple years. I feel the new jackets tear easily. Caught a thorn on the arm and it shredded the jacket, my old jacket doesn’t have a tear on it after years of wear. The issue I notice the most is the feathers seem to come out of ever seam they can fin. The jacket I recently got has feathers coming out all over it. My old Patagonia, not a feather to been lost, sigh, I know I sound like an old man yelling at clouds but they just don’t make them like they used to. Still a nice warm jacket with a pretty ethical company so you make the call

I love my Patagonia Down Sweater Hooded Jacket. However, if you're allergic to down feathers, the jacket might be challenge when it gets moist out.

Nice Jacket But Hood Too Tight to Use

I ordered size Medium, as I wear in my other Patagonia fleeces and jackets. The body and arms fit well as expected. The jacket is warm, soft, and light, and a joy to wear. However, the hood when fully zipped is so tight that it digs into my chin and restricts my head movement. In other words, with the zipper in the fully up position the bottom of the face opening is on my chin and tight against it. Even if I pull it down below my chin it's still tight, digging in beneath my mouth. There is a cinch cord in the back. It comes fully extended when new, but just to make sure I wasn't mis-using it I cinched it tight. Yep, it was even tighter. This is really a mystery to me how the hood was designed. Unfortunately I had to return this jacket because I would never be able to use the hood fully zipped and then - what is the point of having a hooded jacket.

I purchased this jacket for my boyfriend because he had the same one (different color) before and liked it. After wearing it for a couple of weeks, he noticed some down feathers coming out of a small hole. He is very careful with his clothes, and did not cause the problem.

Nice lightweight down jacket but pricey!

Bought the XL hooded and non-hooded jackets ~4~5 yrs ago, similar red colors, so almost matching to an existing red down vest so a triple matching set. ;) It's relatively warmth and fits fine but.. the armpit/shoulder area Is a bit tight. It's roomy just enough to wear a base layer and up to a non-bulky fleece sweater/jacket underneath. The hood fits fine but gets tight when wearing a fleece/wool hat. Your hands stay relatively warm as down is in front of the handpockets but do keep gloves in the pockets. Can be worn as an outer jacket while wearing insulation underneath down to low 40s F and barely into the mid-high 30s F. If temps drop, the jacket acts like an middle insulation jacket underneath a heavier down parka for warmth. Be careful as the nylon is a bit thin so can easily get snagged and tear. Similar to all Patagucci products, the jacket is relatively expensive so buy when it goes on sale, usually during the off season like spring/summer or early autumn.

Great all arounder

I'm 5' 10", 190 lbs, athletic build and wear a large. I can wear it under an outer shell if TSHTF on a mountain, and I can layer pretty well under it also. My helmet fits well under the hood. When doing high output activity, the jacket is too warm even in 15F with low/no wind (I run warm when climbing, I get cold easy when sitting still). When sitting still, I can wear it comfortably in the shade at 45F. I chose those two statments to point out the range of wind, sun, temperature and activity levels the jacket works at. I've washed it twice (be careful, do your reading before washing down garments), and it's fine. I've packed it into itself and taken it on mountaineering trips in the winter when I don't expect it to go below 0F, and have taken it on probably 15-20 backpacking trips. I got it on sale I think about 7 years ago, and it's really versatile and looks like I'll get another 5-10 years out of it or more. It's a great jacket. It seems like the lightweight standard is now about 8 ounces and this one is 15 (I've weighed mine). I do think you get durability and warmth for the extra ~7 ounces. I do not wear it under a weighted backpack as I don't want to stress the jacket that hard and when I'm carrying weight on my back I'm always warm anyways.
