A "Pro" level disappointment.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wanted to love this jacket. I love the technical features, the colors, the zipper locations, the cut, etc. However the key component to a "pro" series jacket is being absolutely bomber waterproof. I am an outdoor professional who spends long durations of time outside; staying dry in less than optimal weather is critical. Out of the box, this jacket significantly underperformed. The jacket has little to no beading and actually absorbs the water in the outer fabric. The goretex membrane does OK, but even after an hour, my layers inside are quite damp. If I were out for a few days without reprieve, I would be in trouble if I took this jacket. Trying to fix this solution rather than get a new jacket, I re-applied a water proof coating (nikwax) following all product instructions. Still, no improvements. Either I received a defunct jacket or this jacket is NOT worth the cost.

Replacing an old Marmot jacket.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am replacing a ten-year old Marmot rain jacket. Very similar to the Minimalist but I do not recall the name. I have yet to wear this new jacket so I cannot comment on its waterproofing or breathing characteristics. I can say it feels stiffer and is ‘noisier’ than my previous jacket so I am a little disappointed at that. One selling feature of this jacket is that I will sometimes use it as a wading jacket. The fact that the pockets are up higher is a benefit rather than a liability.

Men's Minimalist Pro Jacket - kept me dry!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Jacket fits me well (I'm 5'10", 210lbs, and I like my jackets loose fitting). Kept me dry during the last 2 downpours.

Great jacket with a caveat
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great goretex jacket , well made . i also have 2 Minimalist jackets that i prefer over the pro fore one reason only .The 2 side pockets are placed so high that they really should be referred to as chest pockets .On the basic Minimalist , the pockets are placed lower where they should be and thus is more comfortable when hands are put into the pockets . Also on the Pro , the pockets are not large enough in the opening .

If you have a phone or have hands don't buy this.
I love my old Minimalist Pro jacket. It's great at keeping me dry. But for whatever reason the idiots who designed this version decided to make two changes that make it the last jacket I reach for in a downpour. Change 1: They eliminated the chest pocket...you know...the one you put your phone in? And while that's mystifying in itself, the inconvenience it creates is compounded by the next change. Change 2: They took the hand pockets and moved them up the torso and put them on a diagonal. This might look cool, but it makes it so you have to bend your arms like a T-Rex to access them. And since these are now the only pockets available for your phone, every time you want to answer a call, or check your heart rate, or skip back in your podcast....in other words every single time you might reach for your phone, or a poop back, or a snack bar...you have to contort yourself into an uncomfortable position to do something that with the previous design was effortless. These functional design mistakes take what is otherwise a great jacket and make it incredibly frustrating to wear.

Great performance, prefer pocket redesign
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great from a technical sense, but do not like the angled long pockets would prefer a chest pocket and two smaller vertical pockets versus the long hard to zip angled catch alls.

Fishing Trip Jacket- found!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was looking for a packable raincoat for a Valentines gift because my partner is going on a fishing trip in Alaska and my friend recommended Marmot. I was not sure what to expect but when I got it in the mail it was perfect! Light weight yet you feel protected wearing it. 5 stars!!

Question, I just ordered and received a Marmot Minimalist Pro jacket in February 2023. Manufactured date on the coat tag was October 2021. Does this material wear out or age while stored that long in the Marmot warehouse? Thank you.

Is the pocket layout the same on the Minimalist and the Minimalist Pro jackets? Other than thinner waterproofing materials being utilized, are there any other differences in the Minimalist and Minimalist Pro jackets? Thanks in advance 😊
